According to Football League World, Joey Barton is currently in no rush to find a new role and wants to focus on completing his UEFA Pro License after leaving Fleetwood Town, information that has been highlighted by The Athletic’s Nancy Frostick as she addressed rumours that he may be a candidate for the Sheffield Wednesday job.

The search for a new manager is ongoing after Tony Pulis was sacked by the Owls in late December and it seems that Barton’s exit from Fleetwood on Monday has caused rumours to circle that he could be in line to become the Welshman’s permanent replacement.

Frostick, a trusted source when it comes to Wednesday, took to Twitter yesterday to address the situation and highlight a report from The Athletic that claims the former Manchester City midfielder is in no rush to find a new position and wants to focus on completing his UEFA Pro License.

Fleetwood was the 38-year-old’s first step into management and he spent two and a half years with the North West club, taking charge of them in 128 games.

A string of names have been linked with becoming the permanent Wednesday boss, including Paul Cook, Danny Cowley and caretaker manager Neil Thompson.

I think it would be a good move personally. Questions would be asked about the club possibly being too big for Barton to manage, and that may be true.

That said, he did a very solid job on the Lancashire coast with minnows Fleetwood Town with next to no budget and poor resources. So you would like to think with better all round facilities and more money to spend, he could potentially do a good job at Hillsborough.

His personality is certainly big enough for the job!
