MILLWALL VS ROTHERHAM UTD 02.04.21

The International break is finally over and we can all get back to moaning about our club sides. Thankfully for me there’s not much riding on today’s game other than pride, so I can sit back and try to enjoy proceedings without getting too stressed...... yea, right!

Today we welcome Rotherham United to The Den, a side who tend to do quite well against us and upset the apple cart. I am sadly old enough to remember being present when they beat us 6-0 once upon a time, Darren Byfield running riot In a game where Millwall players are rumoured to have basically lost on purpose due to a dispute over bonuses from the previous season.

I was also up at Rotherham for a game which all but confirmed our relegation under ex boss Ian Holloway, so it’s fair to say I don’t have great memories playing the Millers.

Last time out we were impressive in a home win against Middlesbrough, an own goal after good work from Jed Wallace won us that one. Danny McNamara and Billy Mitchell (academy graduates and Millwall fans) were impressive throughout the game, whilst Mason Bennett and Jed were again dangerous without managing to score themselves. Our defence were solid as they have been most of the season barring one or two blips, we currently have the 4th best defence in the League in terms of goals conceded and the boys will be confident of another shut out on Friday.

We also potentially welcome 3 players back into the match day squad after lengthy lay-outs. Connor Mahoney has featured in the last two u23 games, playing for 45 mins and 60 mins. He will definitely be back on the bench after being out since early in the season, it will arguably feel like a new signing!

Maikel Kieftenbeld and Kenneth Zohore have also been training this week after spending the last few months out, but involvement today may come too soon. There is no need to rush anyone back.

Ryan Leonard is still out.

Here is how I think we will line up, and it’s unchanged from Middlesbrough 2 weeks ago -

I have mixed emotions when making my prediction. Rotherham are fighting for their lives whilst we have only a tiny outside shout of a play off spot, but in reality have ZERO to play for. The history also leads me to not feel as confident as i should be coming into this one considering we are a much better side than Rotherham.

I will predict a draw to be on the cautious side and go with 1-1, but I honestly expect us to win this game regardless of what’s to play for and regardless of history. It’s the here and now that counts!

So Paul Warne takes his side to the den to face a very inconsistent millwall Rotherham have won their last 2 away games in a row the reverse fixture back in September was Rotherham 0-1 Millwall the only goal of that game came in the 50th minute by Jed Wallace but the previous visit to the den for Rotherham was a 0-0 draw on a cold February day millwall nearly stole it late on.

Recently Rotherham have lost 1-4 at home to Watford and then won 0-2 away to Bristol City, as for Millwall it was a 3-2 defeat at QPR and a 1-0 win at home to Middlesbrough so tomorrow’s game should be a great entertaining game.

Hopefully its a Rotherham win, but for a prediction I’m gonna say Millwall 0-2 Rotherham as we will want it more as we’re playing for our championship status and Millwall are playing for nothing.
