LIVERPOOL V MAN UTD: PREMIER LEAGUE REVIEW 17th JANUARY 2021

Well.... That was one for the purists.

In what was billed as part of a "Super Sunday" Liverpool and Manchester United served up a pile of rubbish for our Sunday evening "entertainment".

Liverpool were after their first win in 5 games, and their first goal in 3.

United were looking to make it four successive victories, whilst also extending their lead at the top of the Premier League table to 3 points in the process.

The first real chance of the game come on 13 minutes, a loose ball fell to Andy Robertson on the age of the penalty area but the Liverpool wing back could only sky his left foot volley over the bar.

Just three minutes later there was a brilliant chance to take the lead for the home side, Sadio Mane cut the ball back to the edge of the penalty area but Roberto Firmino could only slice his left footed effort well wide of the mark.

It was again Liverpool to threaten the goal, this time on 20 minutes but Mo Salah’s effort was directed wide for a corner.

Two minutes later Paul Pogba give the ball away in midfield which allowed Liverpool to counter-attack, the ball again found its way to Mane on the edge of the penalty area, he laid the ball to his left hand side for Firmino who’s shot was deflected only to find Mo Salah who could only smash his effort well over the bar.

Shaqiri would do the same thing only a few minutes later, but after finding himself in a very good position on the edge of the penalty area he could only curl his left footed effort wide of the post.

Manchester United did finally threaten the Liverpool goal after 33 minutes. Bruno Fernandes hit a wonderful freekick from 25 yards out that flew inches past the post, with Liverpool keeper Alison struggling to make it across his goal in time had it been on target.

Almost instantly though Liverpool went up other end and nearly scored themselves.

Mo Salah found him self down the left hand side, his pass found Firmino in the middle of the penalty area but his effort was a week one straight at David De Gea.

The game was then dead until the hour mark when Firmino did really well to find Mo Salah again in the centre of the penalty area just 10 yards out, but the Egyptian could only put his effort wide after it took a deflection off Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.

Four minutes later Manchester United finally had their first shot on target but Bruno Fernandes’ effort was a very tame one and was collected easily by the Liverpool keeper.

We did nearly finally see a go on 74 minutes after good work down the left from Marcus Rashford allowed him to find Luke Shaw who’s excellent cutback found Fernandes on the edge of the 6 yard box, but the Portuguese midfielders effort was well saved by Alisson at point blank range.

Paul Pogba then Missed a brilliant chance on 83 minutes to take the lead, good work from Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the right hand side allowed him to find the Frenchman who hit a powerful effort from 7 yards out, but his goal-bound effort was well saved by Alisson in between the Liverpool sticks to assure this massively over-hyped fixture would end 0-0.

Cheers for that lads, was well worth the pre match excitement.

What a match this was! I remember watching this match was a total fun experience. I was enjoying watching this match so much that I forgot about everything else, even my assignment and had to avail the Assignment Assistance service from UK Assignment Service to complete my assignment on time.
