Premier League New Years Day preview: Moyes returns to Everton, Man Utd could go level with leaders

Updated: Jan 1, 2021

Well... Thank fuck that's over! 2021 is now here and we can all hopefully look forward to a prosperous New Year which will hopefully see us back in stadiums at some point, watching our beloved clubs.

Here we will look ahead to the opening games of 2021, starting with David Moyes return to his former club Everton, followed by Aston Villa's trip to Old Trafford to face Man Utd, who will be looking for a massive 3 points which would take them level with league leaders Liverpool.

KICK OFF TIME:

5:30pm at Goodison Park Live on BT sport (BT sport 1 + Ultimate)

TEAM NEWS:

Richarlison is back available for Everton after missing the win at Sheffield United because of concussion.

James Rodriguez could return from a calf injury, while Lucas Digne and Allan face a few more weeks out.

West Ham manager David Moyes has a near full squad as he seeks a first win at Goodison Park since leaving Everton in 2013.

The only confirmed absentee is Arthur Masuaku, who recently had knee surgery.

PREDICTION:

West Ham have seen a dip in form lately after a really good run in November/early December, whilst Everton are looking good and playing well under boss Carlo Ancelotti. I will go for a home win.

EVERTON 2 WEST HAM 0

KICK OFF TIME:

8pm at Old Trafford Live on Sky sports (Main event + Premier league)

TEAM NEWS:

Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani will begin a three-match ban after pleading guilty to a misconduct charge. Defender Victor Lindelof missed the win over Wolves because of a back problem and could be absent again.

Aston Villa have Tyrone Mings available after serving a 1 match ban.

Ross Barkley is expected to be fit for the first time since he sustained a hamstring injury against Brighton on 21 November.

PREDICTION:

As a neutral this is one im looking forward to. Villa have been brilliant this season and they are a side i think everyone bar Birmingham fans will enjoy watching. Grealish has been sensational, El-Ghazi has chipped in with some massive goals, Watkins has been brilliant leading the line.

On the other hand Man Utd are slowly starting to become a side we all enjoy watching again too, their attacking options are arguably the best in the league and Ole has done a very good job this season it has to be said. Pogba is performing like the player we all knew was in there, Rashford is firing on all cylinders.

It will be close, I will opt for another home win though.

MAN UTD 3 VILLA 2
