OXFORD vs PORTSMOUTH 23.02.21
Matchday for Pompey again, facing Oxford United at the KASSAM stadium, the place where Pompey’s promotion hopes were extinguished last season after penalty heartbreak. Pompey and Oxford have had a series of 1-1 draws recently, with that result occurring in of the each of the last 4 meetings, including both play off matches last season. Pompey have lacked passion and desire the last couple matches and suffered 2 very disappointing defeats against Bristol Rovers and Blackpool, whereas the U’s have had a real upturn in form after a dire start to the season, and currently sit 8th, just 3 points outside the play offs.
Pompey will again be without Michael Jacobs which has proven to be a real blow to our attacking threat these last few games. It will be interesting to see whether Jack Whatmough reclaims his starting spot after not being selected since the end of his 3 match ban, instead the likes of James Bolton and Rasmus Nicholaisen have been present at the back.
Pompey really need to start picking up 3 points on a more regular basis if they want to stand a chance at finishing in the top 2, but if we follow on from recent performances, I’m afraid the inform Oxford could be victorious over Pompey with ease. I’m predicting another 1-1 draw between the sides with a Ronan Curtis goal, as he has looked like the only attacking still capable of causing problems, although he himself has still not looked very convincing at times. Hopefully the players can recover that heart and desire that’s been missing in recent games and relight the spark that’s needed to get us back up to where we belong 🔵 PUP 🔵
